This week, PAMA group leader Prof. Maria Luisa Marin participated in the 30th IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry (PhotoIUPAC 2026) held in Zagreb, Croatia.

She delivered a Plenary Lecture entitled «Supported Multifunctional Photocatalysts for Water, Energy, and Health Applications», where she presented the PAMA group’s latest research.

PhotoIUPAC is one of the major international meetings in photochemistry, providing a forum to discuss emerging research, new methodologies, and future perspectives across the field.

Congratulations to Maria Luisa on this invitation and for representing PAMA at PhotoIUPAC 2026.

Several members of our research group attended the 13th European Conference on Solar Chemistry and Photocatalysis: Energy and Environmental Applications (SPEA13), held in Kraków, Poland, from June 22–26.

Our group made a strong contribution to the scientific programme with four oral presentations delivered by our group leaders, Maria Luisa Marin and Francisco Bosca, and postdoctoral researchers Alberto Blázquez Moraleja and Lorena Tamarit Mayo.

 

Additionally, PhD researchers Antonio Bosio and Nerea Blasco Bilbao presented their work during the poster session, with Nerea also presenting her results in a flash presentation.

We are especially proud to share that Nerea Blasco Bilbao was awarded the Second Prize for Best Poster, a well-deserved recognition of the quality and impact of her research.

Congratulations to all our colleagues for representing our group at SPEA13 and thanks to the organizers for hosting such a successful conference!

 

During May, members of our research group participated in Ciencia en Flames, a science outreach initiative that brings science closer to the world of Fallas through activities open to the general public.

The project combines outreach talks and experimental demonstrations to explain, from a scientific perspective, different phenomena related to the Fallas tradition while fostering scientific curiosity among younger audiences. So far, these activities have been carried out at Falla Trinitat-Alboraia, Falla Sevilla-Dénia, and Falla La Fonteta, and the initiative will continue after the summer with new sessions.

One of our group leaders attended the Teaching and Learning in STEM Summer School, organized by the European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTN) and hosted by the University of Valencia from May 19 to 21.

This year’s theme was Question-Driven Learning, with a focus on active learning approaches in higher education, including POGIL and SCALE-UP. The programme brought together STEM educators to share practical strategies for enhancing teaching effectiveness and student engagement. Held at the Faculty of Chemistry, the event formed part of the ECTN Eurolecturer Academy and the ECTN Annual Meeting. It provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and explore ways to further improve STEM teaching practices.
